Our Philosophy

We understand healthy pregnancy, birth and postpartum to be a normal process of the body, not a condition or a problem that needs to be fixed.  We practice with the awareness of your body's ability to grow, birth and feed a child; we avoid unnecessary practices and interventions that would cause greater harm than benefit you and your baby, and we turn to evidence-based practice if interventions are indicated.  As your midwives, we actively listen to your needs throughout care, provide education and support on an individualized basis.

Why Midwifery care

Maybe you want to avoid unnecessary interventions, have a natural birth, or feel supported in your choice give birth where and how you choose.  Perhaps you are seeking human connection and warmth from your care provider, the opportunity to make educated decisions as informed parents, and equality in your OB care.

Individuals choose to hire midwives for many reasons, but the common thread is that they desire to be an active participant in their pregnancy, birth and postpartum, to receive unhurried compassionate careeducation and support from their care provider.

The benefits of hiring a midwife are numerous and include:

  • Highest rate of physiologic (normal) birth of 93%

  • High success rate for VBAC at 87%

  • Nursing success rate of 97% at six weeks postpartum

  • Low rates of cesarean birth (5.2%  vs national average of 31% for term infants)

  • Low rates of episiotomy (1.4%  vs national average of 25%)

  • Less need for pitocin to speed labor (4.5% vs 24% national average)

  • Less use of epidurals (4% vs 67% national average)

  • Lower risk of prematurity and low birth weight

  • Better APGAR scores at birth.
